Nanosized MgO-ZrO(2) precursor powders were prepared by buffer-solution precipitation processing using zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl(2)center dot 8H(2)O) and magnesium chloride (MgCl(2)) as the raw materials, and NH(3) center dot H(2)O as the precipitation agent. The synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, TEM and DSC-TG. The spherical MgO-ZrO(2) particles with an average diameter of 10 similar to 20 nm can be obtained. Phase composition analysis indicates that ZrO(2) powders are pure tetragonal phase as the concentration of stabilizer is 10 mol/L, which can be potential for dental ceramics application.
